Christmas Day Activities For the Kids

Christmas is in the air! Everyone loves the presents, the food, and the fun. Christmas dinner is filled with turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, candied yams, and green bean casserole, but what about stuff to snack on in between? Or fun things to do after the eating is done and the kids are waiting for Santa to come?

Chex-Mix - An easy to make, tummy filling treat! It is not too hard to make and everyone loves it. If you have no time to make it you can buy it in the store pre-made. The fun is trying many of the varieties of the homemade recipe. You can also find the recipe on the official Chex website.

Christmas Day

Chocolate Covered Pretzels - This was always a family favorite with us. Also, it was super simple! All that needs to be done is you melt some Almond Bark Chocolate and dip your pretzels in it and let them dry on wax paper. You can get creative and put some green or red food coloring in your chocolate and make designs on the already white chocolate pretzels. They are very fun and yummy treats!

Food doesn't always entertain everyone, especially the kids. There are many things to keep kids busy during the down time of Christmas. Waiting for Santa puts kids on the edge of their seats and makes them very anxious. Fill their time and minimize that anxiety with a few crafts.

Santa Cookie Containers - Get a plastic Folgers coffee can, empty of course. Around the whole can cover it with felt as if it was Santa's belly, red felt will do fine. Get a Styrofoam ball and glue it on the lid as if it were Santa's head, put on his eyes and nose, for his beard use cotton balls. The hat will be made the same way with the felt but needs to be shaped to match his hat in real life. After doing those steps you will need arms and legs. They can very easily be made by cutting them out of construction paper and gluing them on. Last but definitely not least, Santa cannot forget his belt! Cut a strip of black felt and glue a plain belt buckle onto it and glue it in the middle of the coffee can right over the red felt of his suit. There you have Santa and you can fill him with many yummy treats!

Reindeer Magnets - This is a very fun craft for many little kids. Schools all around the world have little kids do this! All that is needed is googly eyes, construction paper, scissors, and something to write and draw with! The children trace their hands on the paper and cut them out. Them they glue on the eyes and decorate their own reindeer how they want it! It helps them use their imagination and be very creative.

So instead of watching television or sleeping all day during Christmas or Christmas Eve, use these ideas to help bring your family together. Help add some Christmas spirit by spending more family time and being creative together.
